Litter and litter bins
Litter is not welcome in the New Forest and we work with partners and the community to prevent it and clear it up.
Bins
We have installed over 1,000 litter bins across the New Forest, including pony-proof bins in villages such as Burley. All of them can be used for bagged dog poo as well as litter. Bins in town centres are emptied every day and other bins are emptied when needed.
We have introduced on-street recycling to Lymington and Hythe. Paper, cans and plastic bottles can be put in the green side and general litter, such as crisp packs and chewing gum, in the black side.
Education and outreach
We work with the New Forest National Park Authority and Forestry Commission to raise awareness of the problems litter can cause. Our work includes school assemblies and sessions, the Nothing but Footprints campaign and helping local community tidy ups.
Report it
If you see litter, fly-tipping or graffiti you can report it to us through any of the following channels:
- New Forest In Touch This smart phone app allows you to photograph, video and report problems directly to the council
- Online using the council reporting form
Please try to include as much detail as possible to help your street cleaning teams to locate the problem as quickly as possible.
