Food Safety for Businesses and Consumers

For Businesses

  • Starting up - This page provides information on what you should think about if you are starting a new food business.
  • Low Risk Food Activities - Select this option if you are a low risk businesses and have either been requested to or wish to update the Council on your activities. Low risk businesses may not require an inspection.
  • Allergen Guidance - How to provide information to customers on the allergens and demonstrate you can handle and manage food allergens effectively in your food business.
  • Export Health Certificates - This page gives you details on applying for an export health certificate if you are exporting your products.
  • Food Hygiene Training -Is available online from numerous providers.  We advise that food handlers preparing open high risk food are trained to at least Level 2 in Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering (or equivalent) within three months of starting work. It is good practice that managers, supervisors and those involved in designing HACCP documents are trained to at least Level 3 in Food Hygiene.
  • Food Hygiene Rating Scheme - This page provides information to both consumers and businesses on the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme which is designed to help local people and visitors to our area make informed choices about where to eat out or shop for food. You can find a business' food hygiene rating here.


For Consumers

  • Catering at Home - This page gives you information on preparing food, picnics and cooking BBQ's safely at home.
