New Forest District Council raises the Red Ensign flag to mark Merchant Navy Day

Merchant Navy Day September 2018 Today Monday 3 September we raised the Red Ensign Flag at our office in Lyndhurst.

Chairman Cllr Melville Kendal paid tribute to the Merchant Navy Seafarers as part of a national campaign to raise awareness of the UK's ongoing dependence on the maritime register.  This records the seagoing commercial interests of the UK- registered ships and their crews.

NFDC was supporting a call from the Seafarers Uk charity and the Merchant Navy Association for the UK's Merchants Navy's official  flag to be flown on  public buildings and landmark flagstaffs.

The flag raising ceremony today  at the Council's office at Appletree Court, Lyndhurst was attended by Cllr Barry Rickman (Leader),   Cllr Melville Kendal (Chairman), Cllr Allan Glass (Vice Chairman)  and Bob Jackson (Chief Executive)
