Universal Credit

New Forest District Council is reminding residents of the government's latest changes to benefits with the roll-out of Universal Credit (UC). If you qualify, you will receive a single monthly payment into your bank account. 

Universal Credit, introduced by the Department for Work and Pensions, is designed to support working age people who are on a low income or out of work. It is replacing six existing benefits and is currently being rolled out across the UK.

From the 26 September 2018, New Forest District Council became a full service area, this means for most working age claimants you will no longer be able to make a new claim to one of the benefits listed below:-

Housing Benefit (some exemptions apply)

Income Support

Income Based Job Seekers Allowance

Employment and Support Allowance

Child Tax Credits

Working Tax Credit

You must apply for Universal Credit on-line and the payment will include rent (if liable), individuals are responsible for making payments to their landlord.

Please note that Universal Credit does not include help with your Council Tax.
